What about your website?

Websites have changed!  Years ago with no real social media outlet, websites were extremely complicated with many drop down menus for your customers to wade through. This isn’t really the case anymore. Your website needs to be a simple and effective way to maximise the potential impact when someone gets to your page.

Think about what “must” be there. First of all make sure you have a clear vision of what you want to say. The next most important thing is to check every link. There is nothing that will put off a customer than clicking on an item and getting the dreaded “404 error” that can’t find the page they are looking for.  They are quite likely to just close your tab and go back to search for something else.

Keeping someone on your site is still a great thing, particularly if you are a media outlet of some kind, but most websites are there to allow your customers to contact you or buy your products. Make sure you have good contact information. If you have product like menus have them readily available to download. If you have a shop component, keep it up to date!

Make sure you have the ability for social media sharing on your website. It’s very important that if someone comes to your site and sees something they like or they think is interesting, they can share it using their preferred social media.

Depending on how your site is set up and with what products there are plenty of things available.  Just takes a little googling and some experience.  For example I found ShareThis for WordPress which is what I’m using on this site.

The most important thing these days about creation of websites is that they are responsive. This means they will alter the way they look on different devices.  There are a lot of make your own website programmes for free on the web. Check some of these out. They all have different pros and cons and you need to investigate thoroughly before you choose.
